WhatsApp May Launch ‘WhatsApp Plus’
Popular messaging platform WhatsApp could soon introduce a new optional paid subscription called “WhatsApp Plus.” According to recent reports, the platform is testing a premium tier that may provide additional customization options, enhanced chat controls, and other exclusive features for users who want a more personalized experience.
While the new plan may add paid features, the company is expected to keep its core messaging services completely free for all users. Messaging, voice calls, video calls, and end-to-end encryption will continue to remain available without any subscription.
Feature Spotted in Android Beta
The upcoming subscription service was reportedly discovered in the Android beta version 2.26.9.12. The discovery was shared by tech tracking platform WABetaInfo, which regularly reports on upcoming features being tested in beta versions of WhatsApp.
According to the report, the feature is currently under development and may eventually be introduced for both Android and iOS devices. If the subscription launches officially, it would mark the first time WhatsApp has introduced a premium paid tier for individual users since the service first launched in 2009.
Meta’s Possible New Revenue Strategy
The introduction of a paid subscription could signal a broader shift in strategy by WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta Platforms.
Unlike many social media platforms, WhatsApp mainly focuses on private messaging, which limits the company’s ability to display traditional advertisements. Because of this, introducing optional premium subscriptions could become a new way for the company to generate steady revenue while still keeping the core app free.
